Cabo San Lucas 2021

Below is a guide to traveling to Cabo San Lucas in 2021... How to get there, what to do, where to stay, where to eat, etc!

How to get there

Whether you're traveling from a big city or small town, there are always ways to save money! Between a year and 6 months out, download the Hopper app. It allows for you to save trips and will notify you when prices drop or increase. It also has suggestions on whether or not the prices are expected to go down or not. Next, I like to book using Expedia. When comparing prices on the resort's website and the airline's website, the cost was significantly cheaper on Expedia. Essentially, we got our flight for free when booking the package on Expedia! After booking our trip, and my boyfriend's parents trip, I was looking at about $215 in reward points that I can use in the future!

When booking your airport transfer, look into Cabo Premium Logistics! You can get round-trip transportation to and from your resort for up to 6 people for $120. If you want to stop at the store and stock up on extra alcohol, food, or snacks the price ranges from $140-160!

Where to Stay

I have been to Cabo 5 times now and I can confidently say that Pueblo Bonito resorts are the best place to stay in Cabo. If you're looking for a budget friendly resort with all inclusive packages on the beach, look at Pueblo Bonito Rose and Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos. These resorts are right next to each other and located on Medano Beach (where it all happens). They are sister resorts, which means you get all-inclusive access at both resorts! Not to mention, you also get a free shuttle to Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach which is on the Pacific side (no swimming) and has amazing views and restaurants - also all-inclusive. So think about it - you're getting an affordable resort and access to 2 other resorts and their amenities!

Price: (booked on Expedia) 6 nights + all-inclusive + round trip airfare = $980 per person

Where to Drink

If you're looking to leave the resort and grab a drink or spend the night on the town, there are a few places everyone must visit when in Cabo! I've been visiting Cabo since I was 18 and I can say that it feels completely safe. Feel free to walk through town and visit some of these favorites:

The Office

One of the most aesthetically pleasing places on Medano Beach, The Office is a must-see for first timers. Situated on the beach, you can enjoy food and drinks with your feet in the sand. Something you'll see when visiting Cabo is the custom glasswork done by locals. Hearts hang from trees and the glasses are a work of art. If you're visiting during the pandemic you have to make a reservation, but I typically just visit for one of their margaritas at the bar (trust me, you only need one!)

The Mango Deck

Typically known for its party environment and a stomping ground for spring breakers, the Mango Deck plays the best music and is the best beach bar for partying. During Covid they removed the stage and social distanced the tables, but normally you can socialize and compete in competitions on stage for free drinks and prizes.

Omega Sports Bar

An absolute favorite of mine, and situated right on Medano Beach! This bar has the best guac and fish tacos you will ever try and typically has great deals. I also recommend booking all of your water activities here - but more on that in a few.

The Nowhere Bar

This is where the real party is at night. The Nowhere Bar is a small bar on the marina with an old-school dance floor and throwback jams. Before the pandemic, they hosted ladies nights with free drinks and discounts but expect to pay full price in 2021. It's the perfect place for dancing the night away!

El Squid Roe

One of the best clubs in Cabo, and home to the spring breakers. Typically, this 3 story club is packed wall to wall with girls dancing on tables, in cages, and sometimes a famous artist performing. During covid, I would say it's a waste of a visit because drinks are expensive. Hopefully we can see the return of Squid Roe once the pandemic is controlled!

MCO Cabo Bar

RAINBOW SHOTS! This is an outdoor bar known for their rainbow shots. It's also in an area with some honorable mentions:

  • The Giggling Marlin - Hang upside down and take a shot
  • Cabo Wabo - Live music and a beautiful environment
  • The Jungle Bar - Rock music and a good time

What to do?

If you're staying on Medano Beach, the fun is just a walk away! As a planner myself, I know your first instinct is to book all of your activities in advance. Don't do it!!! Especially during the pandemic, these small businesses are hurting and begging for business. Take a walk down the beach and I guarantee you'll be approached about doing activities. Get a quote, ask to go lower and if you're not happy with that cost, just keep looking! The same thing goes while at the marina. Here are some of my favorite activities in Cabo:

  • Glass Bottom Boat: You'll see a bunch of small boats near the shore line and these have glass panels on the bottom that allow for you to see the beautiful formations and fish below you! They'll take you out to the famous Arch and some might offer snorkeling or for you to get out on Lover's Beach. This year, I went to the marina and booked a completely clear boat tour! It was amazing, but due to being acrylic you cannot get out on the beach since they can't dock the boat. The average cost for these rides are $15-20.
  • Jet Skis: I always book my jet skis at Omega sports bar because they tend to have the best prices. For a 30 minute ride for two people on one jet ski, expect to pay about $50-60. One thing I noticed is that with two riders, it is more difficult to balance. We definitely flipped a couple of times, so if you're not ready to get wet try booking your own ski.
  • Parasailing: The weather has to be just right to go parasailing but it was honestly one of the coolest things I've done! You'll head out on a boat and get a great view of Medano Beach and the rock formations. I haven't been in a few years but the price is usually reasonable!
  • Deep Sea Fishing: This was one of the coolest experiences and I went for the first time this summer! For $300, we booked a 6 hour fishing trip on a 32ft boat. It came with transportation, lunch, water, beer, bait, and a crew! After only about 30 minutes, we caught a Mahi Mahi. Unfortunately, the waves were too big for someone on our trip and we went in early but it was a great experience. When we got back to the marina, they skinned the fish for us and we were able to take it back to the resort and have it cooked in one of our all-inclusive restaurants!
  • Tequila Tasting: When walking through town, you will likely end up next to a tequila shop. Walk inside and get the history of tequila making in Mexico while also sampling different types! These samplings are usually free of cost, but it's courteous to buy something from the shop. Look for the hand-beaded bottles made by a tribe in Mexico!

How long should you stay?

5 days is simply not enough time to take in the beauty of Cabo. I would recommend a full 7 day trip so that you can relax and enjoy all that Cabo has to offer. The busiest times to visit Cabo, and arguably the best times, are in March and June/July. While Cabo is beautiful year-round, the end of summer is storm season and you might get some bad weather. September is considered their slowest month and is usually when workers get some time off.
